The S. Williams St., North Carolina neighborhood in which a 12-year-old is alleged to have shot a home intruder is seen in a 2021 file photo.)
Officers responded to a report of a shooting at a North Carolina apartment early Saturday morning. A resident of the apartment, a 73-year-old woman, was found suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. A second person suffering from an apparent gunshot wound was found a half block from the apartment.
The second victim was identified as Khalil Herring or Goldsboro, North Carolina. Both victims were taken to a local hospital. Herring died from his injuries. The 73-year-old was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and is in stable condition.
Preliminary evidence suggests that Herring was one of two masked suspects to “force their way” into the apartment. An armed robbery was attempted, and the elderly resident was shot during the incident.
A twelve-year-old occupant of the residence shot at the suspects in self-defense. The alleged robbers fled the scene. While an investigation into the armed robbery and shootings is underway, charges against the juvenile shooter are not anticipated.

Though the GameStop frenzy may have fizzled, the retail investors who sparked the short squeeze on Reddit are not going anywhere.
“We believe some of the new retail activity is here to stay,” said Bank of America analysts.
At the beginning of last year, a mere 15% to 18% of activity could be attributed to retail trading, while that number is now more than 30%. Overall, trading has doubled.
And data shows that a majority of the new retail investors on the scene are much younger, too.
“We expect another uptick in retail activity with another round of stimulus, though the level will likely depend on the type of stimulus (broad-based or targeted), the market backdrop at the time, as well as any potential regulatory changes discussed over the coming weeks,” Bank of America analysts continued.

Replacing your laptop’s traditional disk drive with a newer solid-state drive is one of the best upgrades you can make. Solid-state drives are much faster than older-style hard drives and can speed up a computer that’s struggling when it comes to storage.
But how do you keep all of your files and data when swapping out the hard drive? When making the upgrade on a desktop, you usually install the new drive next to the old one and clone your data. But with a laptop, the process is a bit trickier.
One of the first things you need to do is save everything you want to keep in cloud storage. That way, you can install a fresh copy of your operating system but still keep your most important files.
If you want to do a complete clone of your original hard drive, you’ll need a cloning kit. But don’t worry, most electronics stores and computer shops sell them!

LEARNING FROM THE PAST

Teddy bears are the epitome of stuffed animals here in the United States. So, it might be a little hard to imagine that teddy bears have only been a part of the American experience for 118 years. That’s 118 years exactly, as of today.
And when they first arrived, they took our nation by storm.
“On February 15, 1903, toy store owner and inventor Morris Michtom places two stuffed bears in his shop window, advertising them as Teddy bears. Michtom had earlier petitioned President Theodore Roosevelt for permission to use his nickname, Teddy. The president agreed and, before long, other toy manufacturers began turning out copies of Michtom’s stuffed bears, which soon became a national childhood institution.”
