BREAKING NEWS BRIEF
Two people died and a dozen more were hospitalized after a fatal birthday party shooting this weekend—an incident that marks the third time in 47 days that a celebration ended in gunfire in this country.
“I just started hearing at first what I thought was fireworks, it was really gunshots, and I heard nine in rapid succession,” said Reverend Michael Keene, whose church is not far from the New Jersey home where the incident occurred. “If you’re going to a party, why do you need to take a gun? If you’re there to have a good time, why do you need a gun with you? That means you’re expecting trouble to me.”
Although names have yet to be released, officials said that the deceased included a 30-year-old man and 25-year-old woman.

14 left dead after a tragic cable car accident in Italy
At least 14 were killed when an Italian cable car plunged into a wooded area near Lake Maggiore in northern Italy.
The cable car was carrying passengers from Stresa to the summit of Mottarone mountain. Initial reports indicate that a cable snapped less than 1,000 feet from the top of the mountain, causing the cable car to swing erratically before crashing into the rugged and wooded terrain below.
Most of the victims died at the scene, but rescuers found two children alive in the wreckage. Both of the children were airlifted to a nearby hospital. Officials said one child is in critical condition while the other passed away shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Investigators are trying to determine what caused the crash and why a cable may have failed. Hikers in the area were able to give an eyewitness report, including what they heard before the crash. What did the hikers tell investigators about the tragic crash?
