YOUR MORNING MARKET UPDATE

The markets were mixed this morning as investors waited for word on who won the much-anticipated Senate runoff elections in Georgia.

As of now, it looks like Democratic challenger Raphael Warnock will win against Republican Senator Kelly Loeffler, but it is unclear who will get the other seat. The race between Republican incumbent David Perdue and Democratic challenger Jon Ossoff is very close right now.

“Consensus seems to believe that if Dems win both seats, this is negative for stocks because of the risk of higher taxes,” said one analyst. “But market expectations about election outcome are not really reliable. I don’t know the future, but to me, the ‘uncertainty’ of the election is arguably a bigger overhang then the actual outcome.”
