A North Carolina teenager was beaten, body-slammed, and hit with a stun gun by hospital security and sheriff’s deputies after his mother took him to a medical center for help with a mental health crisis.

The teen’s mother, Jessica Long, has filed a federal lawsuit against Atrium Health, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Hospital Authority, and two of its security officers. The suit also mentioned two Lincoln County deputies.

Long’s teenage son has suffered for years from “one or more psychiatric infirmities” and experienced a mental health crisis. The suit alleges that as the mother and son approached the emergency room entrance, a security guard “aggressively confronted” them and drew a stun gun.

At one point during the incident, the teenager’s hands were handcuffed behind his back.

YOUR MORNING MARKET UPDATE

After Inauguration Day saw stocks skyrocket, futures this morning were only slightly higher.

Yesterday the Dow Jones Industrial Average leapt over 250 points, while the S&P 500 soared 1.4%, and the Nasdaq Composite saw almost 2% in gains.

According to Leuthold Group’s chief investment strategist, Jim Paulsen, yesterday’s market wins “might have less to do with the inauguration than it does with the start of a new earnings season and with investors taking advantage of recent performance to lighten up on winners in favor of adding some out of favor new era stocks which may be leading a good earnings quarter.”

He continued, “Perhaps, it simply reflects a globally synchronized economic recovery boosted by unprecedented stimulus and the nearing of vaccinations. With a backdrop like that, it can go up regardless of who’s President.”

What else do investors have their eyes on this morning?

A HEALTHIER YOU

A healthier you isn’t just about weight loss, eating right, and exercising. It’s also about fueling your body with the nutrients it needs to support a healthy immune system. There are five things you can do right now to help boost your immune system on your way to a healthier you.

One of the ways you can give your immune system a boost is to increase your zinc intake. Zinc works with vitamin C to help improve your immune system and make it stronger. Your immune system utilizes zinc to help attack pathogens that can make you sick. Without appropriate levels of zinc, your body’s natural defense system is rendered essentially useless.

Elderberry is also great for your immune system since it is packed with antioxidants and vitamins that your body needs. If you’re beyond the prevention stage and are already sick, elderberry may reduce the recovery time associated with a cold or the flu. What else can you do to help boost your immune system?

His crime? Conspiracy with foreign powers.

And it isn’t like his closest advisors didn’t try to warn him. And his conniving queen, Marie Antoinette, certainly didn’t help matters.
