BREAKING NEWS BRIEF

Winter weather is to blame for this thirty car pile-up

A massive 30-vehicle pile-up on Yellowstone River Bridge left two people critically injured. The two people jumped from the bridge to avoid being hit by a car. Both have been hospitalized and are expected to recover. Other minor injuries have been reported from the accident but no deaths.

State Justice Department communications director Kyler Nerison said the cause of the multivehicle crash was the “whiteout/zero visibility conditions brought on by a sudden snow squall.” In Billings, Montana, the National Weather Service issued a statement Saturday about heavy snow showers in the area, warning drivers that I-90 would be affected and that there would most likely be slick road conditions and reductions in visibility.

MORNING MARKET UPDATE

Futures on the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed over 300 points this morning, while S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 futures also increased. Treasury yields, meanwhile, continued to decline.

“Bond market volatility surged to its highest level since April and until some calm and some new peak level of yields is found, this [will] be the key focus for investors,” said Jim Paulen of The Leuthold Group.

Last week, all three major benchmarks experienced a dip. The Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 fell 1.7% and 2.5%, respectively, while the Nasdaq Composite plummeted over 4%.

However, each average did perform well in February overall, as investors remained optimistic about more stimulus money, vaccine distribution, and the slew of better-than-expected earnings reports.

Proper nutrition can help you lose weight, lower your risk for heart disease, and positively impact your overall health. But did you know that it can also improve your memory, cognition, and brain health?

Leafy green vegetables are some of the best foods for your brain. These types of vegetables are high in folate, which helps to lower homocysteine, which is thought to contribute to Alzheimer’s. In addition to lowering your risk of Alzheimer’s, vegetables like broccoli and brussels sprouts also help detoxify your body, which also improves your brain health.

Mixed nuts are also great for brain health. Nuts are high in polyphenols, which are shown to dramatically reduce your risk of developing dementia. What other foods can help support a healthy brain and proper cognitive function?

LIFE HACKS

With Apple’s recently updated privacy policy, users now have more say in how app developers track them and what data they can keep.

You can now see how you’re being tracked in the App Privacy section of the App Store. It may shock you how much data big app developers gather from you on a regular basis. If your device is on, you’re basically sending information to app developers like Google.

While all apps gather data from your device in order to work, Google is one of the most aggressive snoopers when it comes to their own apps.

And now, with the new privacy policy changes, you can take action and limit the information that developers like Google take from your device.

While not all apps fall under the updated privacy policy, Apple will continue to make changes and updates, so be sure to keep checking!

LEARNING FROM THE PAST

On this day in 1869, stamps added something that made them a lot more collectible

Today, you can walk into just about any post office and pick up a lovely book of stamps. And there are a ton of different choices when it comes to which design you want.

But that wasn’t always the case. In fact, it wasn’t until this date in 1869 that you could pick up a stamp with ANY image on it.

And boy have we come a long way since the first images were introduced to stamps. The company that was ultimately chosen to illustrate the stamps was National Bank Note Company – but even that didn’t come without some controversy.

The set featured ten different denominations, ranging from 1-cent to 90-cent. And at first, they were anything but popular among customers.
