The chilling account of how one survivor of the Miami building collapse escaped

A former resident of the now-collapsed South Florida condominium building shared a chilling story of how she escaped.

Raysa Rodriguez filed a lawsuit that captures her account of what happened. She said the incident woke her up in the middle of the night. She felt that the “building swayed like a sheet of paper.”

The lights didn’t work, and, once in the hallway, she was met with a wall of dust.

“I couldn’t see anything outside,” she said.

A column “had pierced the hallway from floor to ceiling,” she remembers. When she saw that even the elevator doors had been stripped away, she “screamed in horror.”

“We went to the balcony, first responders were arriving. I knew we needed to get out. But I thought the stairs had collapsed and that waiting for the fire truck was our only escape,” she said.

How did they ultimately find their way out?
