Today marks 110 years since the theft of one of humanity’s most beloved treasures, the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci. As I’m sure you’ve noticed, the Mona Lisa did return to her rightful place in the Louvre — but not until two years had passed.

How in the world does one waltz into the most famous art museum in the world and steal its most famous painting right off the wall? I guess things were a lot simpler in 1911, because no one even noticed until the next day.
