How was this man hurt in a hatchet attack at the ATM?

A 51-year-old man was rushed to the hospital after being attacked by a suspect with a hatchet on Sunday, officials say. The victim, whose identity has not been released, was apparently attempting to withdraw money in Manhattan’s financial district in the early evening.

He’d been using the ATM at a Chase bank when the suspect, who’d been lingering nearby, attacked. Authorities are saying the man with the hatchet was homeless.

The victim was hit twice — once in the head, and another time in the leg.

“The guy that got hit in the head was screaming,” one witness said. “It’s crazy. People were shouting and we saw the guy laying down — a lot of blood.”

What else do we know about the situation right now?
