On Monday, the Chinese government imposed sanctions on six Americans, including former Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, apparently in response to Biden’s advisory warning businesses about the risks of operating in Hong Kong.
It’s the latest example of China responding to U.S. attempts to shed light on human rights abuses in places like Hong Kong, Xinjiang, and Tibet. Chinese officials in turn characterize this as “domestic interference” and paint the U.S. as hypocritical.
