Biden backs Cuban citizens only with words, not action

President Biden said Monday he supports the Cuban people and their “clarion call for freedom and relief,” amid massive protests on the island against the government and food and medicine shortages during the pandemic.

But during his presidency so far, Biden has not yet proven himself to be a man of action. Critics of the Democratic Party will remember a similar uprising in Iran during Obama’s presidency, which did not succeed due to lack of support.

Now the question is whether Biden will do more than urge the Cuban government to allow itself to be overthrown — and whether he should.
