Assistant to US House Sergeant at Arms arrested on child porn charges

An assistant to the House of Representatives’ Sergeant at Arms was arrested Wednesday on child pornography charges, police said.

Stefan Bieret, 41, was charged with 10 felony counts of possession of child pornography after cops executed a search warrant at his home in Burke, Virginia, Fairfax County cops said Thursday.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children had earlier received a tip of an illicit image being uploaded to a Dropbox account, whose owner lived in Fairfax County, police said.

Detectives there launched an investigation in August and executed a search warrant on the Dropbox, which had contained images of child sex abuse, police said.

Bieret was ultimately identified as the account owner and “multiple” electronic devices were recovered from his home. He was ordered held without bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, cops in Virginia said.

A website that tracks Capitol Hill staffers listed Bieret as a program manager and senior assistant to the Sergeant at Arms of the House of Representatives — or the chief law enforcement officer for the lower house of Congress.

The office of House Sergeant at Arms William J. Walker did not immediately return a message from The Post seeking comment Friday afternoon.

Fairfax County police said an investigation into the digital evidence recovered from Bieret’s home is ongoing and prosecutors will be consulted for any additional charges.

Bieret is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 22, RollCall.com reported. The congressional employee also previously worked for the US Capitol Police in a civilian role in its Security Services Bureau front office from April 2019 to September 2020, the website reported.

Bieret is known as a longtime Capitol Hill fixture, according to Jake Sherman of Punchbowl News.

“Capitol insiders will know Stefan very well,” Sherman tweeted Friday. “If you’re in the Capitol on a regular basis, you will have seen this face.”

Anyone with information regarding Bieret or other cases involving the alleged exploitation of child should call Fairfax County police at (703) 246-7800.
