BREAKING NEWS BRIEF
The hoarding behavior that Americans have exhibited so far during the pandemic has only intensified following the ransomware attack on Colonial Pipeline last week, with demand for gasoline skyrocketing 20%.
In Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia (the states served by the largely-shuttered pipeline), demand had increased over 40%.
One Florida resident shares her experience: “I got scared that I could not go to work or take my daughters to school. All the gas stations in my area were without gas and when I finally found one I had to stay an hour in line and I had to fill up with the premium unleaded.”
The governors of Florida and North Carolina issued states of emergency earlier this week.
“People are taking their entire family fleet of vehicles to the gas station and filling up when they don’t need to,” said Tiffany Wright of AAA Carolinas. “We are our own worst enemy in this situation because we are over-consuming at the pump.”

MARKET UPDATE
These two stocks took off even while the rest of stock market plunged
Yesterday morning, stock market anxiety increased as Wall Street responded negatively to increasing indicators of inflation and other challenges. In the last year, the stock market has experienced a bullish run, but experts are wondering if a correction is just a matter of time.
Major market benchmarks suffered significant declines as investors focus on stocks in energy and technology sectors.
Despite the market’s overall losses, some individual stocks saw some positive gains.
These two stocks in particular were performing strongly as the rest of the market seemed to suffer.

Multiple students were killed in a mass shooting at a Russian school
At least seven children were killed and several others were injured when a gunman opened fire in a Russian school on Tuesday.
The scene of the mass shooting was in the city of Kazan, Russia. Shortly after the shooting, multiple ambulances, police cars, and authorities were seen swarming around the outside of the school building.
In addition to the shooting, a small explosion also occurred inside the building shortly before authorities arrived. According to police, only one person was believed to be involved in the shooting and explosion and that suspect has since been detained.
Russian President Vladimir Putin responded swiftly to the mass shooting and immediately called for more strict gun control measures. What did Putin say in his response and what else is known about the mass shooting?

BUDGETING BETTER
This is how much “fun” money you should be working into your budget
Budgeting, for most of us, is not our favorite activity. Day after day, I resist my budget planner because…well…it’s not fun.
One way to fix that, I’ve discovered, is to budget for fun.
I don’t mean that you sit down with a bunch of highlighters and let the color-coding mania overtake you. (Although, if that’s your thing, I fully support you.) I mean that working in money specifically for fun activities can really boost your budget sessions.
Here’s how to do it (or fall asleep trying).
