Earl Simmons, the actor and rapper known as DMX, passed away yesterday in the hospital after several days on life support. About a week ago, he’d had a heart attack at home. He was 50 years old.

“Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end,” his family wrote in a statement. “He loved his family with all of his heart and we cherish the times we spent with him.”

The actor Chris Redd said on twitter: “My childhood and love for music would not have been the same without this man. DMX was easily my favorite artist growing up. I had every album, every ruff Ryder song, followed any artist he endorsed. Man… RIP the dog. There will never be another like him.”

Simmons, whose musical career eventually broadened to include acting, struggled with substance abuse for quite some time.

Your morning market update

U.S. stocks climbed to record levels and closed out Friday at their session highs as Wall Street wrapped up the week with solid gains amid rising reopening optimism.

Stocks linked to the recovering economy led the gains again amid the accelerating vaccine rollout.

Market volatility has declined significantly as the S&P 500 kept grinding higher to refresh its record high.

The tension in Northern Ireland continues to rise as rioters continue to clash with police and leave a trail of destruction across Belfast.

Protestors took to the streets to riot last week after tensions between the Protestant and Catholic communities reached a boiling point. The city has been in turmoil ever since. The unrest stems from disagreements over pandemic-related lockdowns and restrictions, as well as new post-Brexit trade rules.

The riots took a violent turn this week as stones, fireworks, and flaming gasoline filled bottles have been hurled at police over the last few days. A total of 19 officers were injured late in the week, bringing the total of injured officers to 74.

What are police and government officials doing to try to curb the riots and is there an end in sight to all of the violence?
