Senate Democrats want women to be required to register for the draft

Senate Democrats are floating the idea of changing the military draft laws in the United States. Under the new proposal, women would be required to register for the draft.

Senate Armed Services Chair Jack Reed has reportedly drafted the proposed changes already and discussion has begun amongst Democrats to adopt the new requirements. Democrats seem to be overwhelmingly in support of the proposed changes so far.

The revisions to the draft could be pushed through in the upcoming National Defense Authorization Act defense policy bill, which is considered a “must-pass” legislation by Congress.

So what is the timeline on the new draft requirements becoming law and do the sweeping changes really stand a chance?
