Ghislaine Maxwell’s brother talks family in groundbreaking interview

A member of the infamous Maxwell clan says you’re never gonna keep the family down.

Not even after 50 years of headline-making indignity. Not even as one of their own sits in a Brooklyn jail cell amid a seedy international sex scandal.

“This is a family that sticks together,” Ghislaine Maxwell’s older brother, Ian, said in a new interview with the Telegraph.

“Ghislaine has people who love her; people who trust her. This is a family that has been knocked down, gets up, gets knocked down again and then gets up. We are a family that fights for each other and this is a big fight we are in. We are hopeful justice will prevail as it must.”

Ghislaine Maxwell has been held for more than a year at the Metropolitan Detention Center, awaiting trial on sex abuse and trafficking charges. She’s accused of horrific crimes, delivering underaged girls to child rapist Jeffrey Epstein, who later killed himself in a Manhattan jail.

The Maxwells are no stranger to scandal, Ian Maxwell told the Telegraph.

The family patriarch, Robert Maxwell, died under tragic circumstances, falling off his yacht Lady Ghislaine on Nov. 5, 1991. The rags-to-riches former MP and publishing magnate became the center of scandal in 1971 when UK authorities declared him unfit to run a publicly-traded company, soon after he had been ousted from the board of Pergamon Press, the enterprise he founded in 1948.

Maxwell purchased the NY Daily News in 1991 shortly before his death. His sons, Ian and Kevin, faced scandal, too, but beat fraud charges in 1996.

“Bob Maxwell died 30 years ago and in the same month, Ghislaine is facing her moment of truth,” Ian Maxwell told the Telegraph.

“This family has been somehow – the father mostly and now the children – in the news since 1971,” said Ian Maxwell.

He’s working now from London to ensure that his sister gets a fair shake in New York courts, and in the courts of public opinion.

He’s specifically perplexed why authorities have spurned potential testimony from Virginia Giuffre, who has alleged she was a minor forced by Maxwell and Jeffrey Epstein to engage in sex acts with Prince Andrew.

“It’s an extraordinary situation,” Maxwell told the Telegraph. “Neither the UK police nor, it would seem, the US authorities are using the allegations of Virginia Giuffre.

“If her claims are strong and true, and there is back-up evidence to support them, why aren’t they using them? In my opinion, it speaks volumes as to credibility.”

“I cannot imagine someone would tell such lies. It is too unconscionable. What I think seems evident is that she was deeply confused. She seems to me to be a very, very confused lady.”
