Secretary of State Blinken visits Afghanistan immediately after the US announces its withdrawal
Yesterday President Joe Biden announced that the U.S. would withdraw its troops from Afghanistan after 20 years, and today, Secretary of state Antony Blinken touched down in the country’s capital to “demonstrate…the ongoing commitment of the United States to the Islamic Republic and the people of Afghanistan.”
“The partnership is changing, but the partnership is enduring,” he said.
The plan is to remove US troops from Afghanistan before September 11,which marks the anniversary of the terrorist attacks that sparked the war.
Troops will begin being sent home May 1.

The Dow is set to jump by 170 points at the open amid better-than-expected earnings
Futures contracts tied to the major U.S. stock indexes rose on Thursday after better-than-expected earnings results.
Contracts tied to the Dow pointed to a 171-point gain at the open. S&P 500 futures added 0.5%, while Nasdaq-100 futures gained 0.6%.
The rebound in the overnight session came after the S&P 500 slipped from record levels during Wednesday’s regular session as pressure on tech offset optimism sparked by the first round of major corporate earnings that largely exceeded expectations.
The earnings season began in earnest with bank results on Wednesday, when Goldman Sachs climbed more than 2% after blowing past analysts’ expectations with record first-quarter net profits and revenues on strong performance from the firm’s equities trading and investment banking units.

The volcano that served as the epic background for the volleyball game is the Fagradalsfjall volcano that is located on Iceland’s Reykjanes Peninsula. The volcano has been actively erupting since March 20 of this year.
