Border Patrol agents encounter nearly 2,000 migrants in one day, hundreds get through

Border Patrol agents in the Rio Grande Valley sector encountered nearly 2,000 migrants in a single day on Friday, with hundreds getting past the overwhelmed officers, according to reports.

Within a 24-hour period, there were 1,909 encounters with illegal immigrants, including at least 262 “gotaways,” in which CBP officers monitored their crossing through camera or sensors but did not have the available manpower to apprehend them, Department of Homeland Security sources told Fox News. Many more are likely to have crossed undetected.

The RGV sector has encountered more than 65,000 migrants in the 2022 Fiscal Year, a 161 percent increase from the same period last year.

In Fiscal Year 2021 over 1.7 million migrants were encountered and more than 192,000 migrants were encountered in September alone.

Officials from the El Paso Sector of the U.S. Border Patrol announced dozens of adults posing as unaccompanied minors had been caught attempting to illegally cross the border, with over 55 adults posing as children apprehended since Oct. 1.
