4 Philadelphia teens charged after allegedly attacking Asian woman on train

Four teen girls in Philadelphia have been charged with aggravated assault and ethnic intimidation, among other offenses, after allegedly attacking an Asian woman on a commuter train.

The alleged unprovoked attack occurred the afternoon of Nov. 17, when four black girls harassed and then struck a group of four Asian students, three male and one female, according to reports.

“This was an attack based on ethnicity and ethnic slurs were used by the attackers,” SEPTA Police Chief Thomas Nestel said, according to NBC 10 Philadelphia. “Hence, why we’re charging ethnic intimidation.”

The four suspects are all under the age of 17. They were identified after one of the girls’ mothers recognized her in a viral video of the attack, according to CNN.
